Knowledge of computer programming is a valuable employment asset. As technology continues to weave into our daily lives, coding skills have become more desired among candidates — several of the most in-demand skills fall under computing.
In terms of how technology has changed music over the years, one key contributor takes the lead. The advent of social media has changed the game in many ways, including recording studios and execs approaching public relations and music journalism. A genuine connection lends itself to increased revenue streams as loyal fan bases are built. This has led musicians to guest star on podcasts, perform on radio shows, and answer fan questions in real-time through popular online media.
Music and art are important sectors within our modern day society. The teaching and acknowledgment of the importance of the creative sector as an integral part of human development, can lead to the creation of new and innovative solutions to some of the worlds most complex problems. Over the 3 difficulty levels in this project, different styles of art and music will be explored in the context of coding and computer science, leading to 3 separate, fully developed projects.
Task

In the intermediate section there will be a focus on being creative using art and programming interchangeably. These two subjects grow together and overlap increasingly every day, so it’s only right that we adapt that creative spark and fuse it with technology. In this project we will create a paint program in scratch, meaning we can draw whatever our imagination requires.
Process
In order to complete the task you will need to go to the resources section and find the document titled:C4MWR Scratch program - Process. Follow the instructions from slide three onwards.
In addition included in the resources sections are two videos you are encouraged to watch the video: Virtual upskilling for your return to work - Women Returners this is a guide that will help you some of the additional things you will need to do as well as gain the technical coding skills. The second video titled How to survive the music industry as a woman | Charlotte Carpenter | TEDxLeicesterWomen is a very helpful on providing insight into how to survive in the music industry as a women and what soft skills you need in order to monetise your talent in that industry. These resources will help you complete the task.
Conclusion
For many, learning to code is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. After you have the basics down and start on your own original projects, the process will feel less like learning and more like leisure. After all, if you’re not enjoying it, why pursue it as a career?
Congratulations! You have completed this section of the music and art sector. You are ready to move on to the advanced level…
Learning Objectives
- The main learning objective in this activity is to be creative using art and programming interchangeably. These two subjects grow together and overlap increasingly every day, so it’s only right that we adapt that creative spark and fuse it with technology
- You will develop enhanced communication skills. Coders must be able to communicate clearly to their team, colleagues, and clients.
- You will develop empathy to comprehend and be sensitive to other people’s needs and emotions.
- Learning to code is like learning how to read and write in a different medium – it enables you with creative and expressive power.
- Code helps learners to become creators of digital artifacts rather than simply being consumers
